NBA Team Stats

Every team on efficiency, pace, the four factors, shooting and luck, with ranks, league averages and percentiles.

Reading the table

Pick a season and a window. Rank (#) is net rating: points outscored per 100 possessions. Green is better than the NBA and brick-red is worse; for "allowed" stats lower is better and the colours flip. Display → Show → Percentiles swaps every value for its percentile (100 = best). Display → View → Scatter plots offense against defense. Greyed cells have less than that metric's minimum sample. Click a team for its full profile.

Luck. Expected win % is the record a team's scoring margin usually produces; Luck is the gap between the real record and that. Close games (decided by 5 points or fewer) and opponents' three-point shooting swing a lot and tend to even out, so teams far from zero on these are worth a second look.

Windows. Season is every game so far. Last 10 and Last 5 are each team's most recent games. Back-to-back is the second of two games on consecutive days; 2+ days rest and 3 games in 4 nights follow the schedule. vs top third and vs bottom third split games by how strong the opponent was at the time. Custom dates covers any date range you choose. Every number is recomputed from the games themselves, and a window never uses a game played after its last date.

Free and members. Season and Last 10 are free for everyone. Last 5, Home, Road, Back-to-back, 2+ days rest, 3 games in 4 nights, vs top third, vs bottom third and custom dates are part of Analytics, and every higher plan includes them.

Offense: four factors

Effective FG% (eFG%)
Field-goal percentage counting a made three as 1.5 makes. Higher is better.
Turnover rate (TOV%)
Turnovers per possession-ending play (shot attempts, trips to the line and turnovers). Lower is better.

Free-throw attempts per field-goal attempt. Higher is better.

Defense: four factors

Opponent eFG% (Opp eFG%)
Opponents' effective field-goal percentage. Lower is better.
Forced turnover rate (Forced TOV%)
Opponent turnovers per possession-ending play. Higher is better.
Defensive rebound % (DREB%)
Share of the opponents' missed shots the team rebounds. Higher is better.

Luck

Expected win % (Exp W%)
The win percentage a team's points scored and allowed usually produce. Higher is better.

Actual win percentage minus expected win percentage. Positive means more wins than the scoring margin usually brings; it tends not to last. Neither higher nor lower is better on its own.
Close-game win % (Close W%)
Win percentage in games decided by 5 points or fewer. Records in close games swing a lot and tend to even out. Neither higher nor lower is better on its own.
3P% vs league (3P% +/-)
The team's three-point percentage minus the NBA average over the same games. Hot and cold shooting runs tend to cool off. Neither higher nor lower is better on its own.
Opponent 3P% vs league (Opp 3P% +/-)
Opponents' three-point percentage minus the NBA average. Defenses have limited control over it, so a big number either way tends to even out. Neither higher nor lower is better on its own.
