NFL Situational Explorer
Every offense and defense, ranked in the situations that decide games.
Using the explorer
Pick a side, a window and a situation, and every offense (or defense) is ranked on how it played in exactly that spot: 3rd and long, backed up inside its own 10, trailing by two scores, the final two minutes of a half, a windy outdoor game and more. Plays is how many snaps fit the situation, so you can see when a number rests on a handful of plays. Greyed cells are below that metric's minimum sample.
Dropback rate and PROE (pass rate over expected) describe style rather than quality: on early downs they show who throws when the situation does not force it. 1st-down rate on 3rd or 4th down is the conversion rate. Sack + QB hit % counts dropbacks where the quarterback went down or took a hit. Explosive passes are shown two ways, 15+ yards and 20+ yards; explosive runs are 10+ yards.
Free and members
Every named situation is free for the full season and the last five games, for every season since 2015. Analytics members (and every higher plan) can combine any filters, choose the last 8 or last 3 games or any range of weeks, split home and away games, and compare play-callers across every team they called plays for.
Play-by-play data: nflverse (CC-BY 4.0). EPA is raw, not adjusted for opponents, so it differs from the opponent-adjusted EPA on Power Rankings. Two-point tries are not included.
