Background

Gridiron & Wine started with a simple idea: the public pick-selling space is full of "trust me bro" picks, and bettors deserve actual model output, actual reasoning, and an actual receipt for every play.

Jessica built the first version of the NHL model after spending years frustrated with services that posted vague leans, deleted losing weeks, and called positive variance "expertise." The bar at Gridiron & Wine is the opposite: every play is logged, every result is published, and every model uses walk-forward temporal cross-validation so backtests can't quietly peek at the future.

The site now covers NHL, NBA, MLB, and WNBA with purpose-built quantitative models for each sport, with NFL and college basketball models wired and tested for the 2026 fall and winter seasons.

How We Approach the Problem

The Gridiron & Wine philosophy comes down to three things: discipline, transparency, and edge math. No daily-quota fills. No "lock of the year" marketing. Just model output where the edge is real, sized using bankroll-based unit math, and tracked publicly whether it wins or loses.

Discipline

The model fires only when its edge clears a fixed threshold. No volume targets. Some nights, no plays.

Transparency

Every play graded and published. No deletions, no quiet retirements, no "I never sent that pick."

Edge Math

Bets are placed on the gap between model probability and market probability, not on who we think wins.

Methodology & Track Record

Every model deployed on Gridiron & Wine shares the same architectural discipline:

Walk-forward temporal cross-validation — models are trained only on data prior to each test period. No look-ahead bias.
Explicit edge thresholds — the model fires only when its fair probability beats the market by a defined margin.
Tier-sized unit allocation — bets are sized to confidence using a fractional Kelly approximation, not flat units.
Closing line value tracking — every pick is logged with the price sent and the closing line. Strategies with negative CLV are retired even if short-term ROI is positive.
